RED GRAPE+WHITE GRAPE=GOLD
The Lerida Estate 2009 Shiraz Viognier was launched today by the Deputy Chief Minister of the ACT, Mr Andrew Barr at the Hyatt Hotel in Canberra.
The launch coincided with the announcement in London of the winners at the 2012 International Wine Challenge (one of the world’s biggest wine shows), and the Lerida Estate 2009 Shiraz Viognier was honoured with a prestigious Gold Medal and is now in the running for the Trophy for the Shiraz Class to be presented in London on 20 June 2012.
This award comes on top of 9 other Gold Medals (or equivalent) this wine has received, including ‘Top Gold’ in the Shiraz Viognier class at the Dan Murphy’s National Wine Show of Australia in December 2011 and being rated as one of three of the ‘Top 2009 Shiraz’ wines in Australia at the recent 2012 Winewise Championship by three prominent Australian wine judges.
At today’s launch, Andrew Barr described the wine’s success as “a win not only for Lerida Estate but a win for the Canberra District wine region. What an international gold medal confirms is that Canberra District fruit and its winemakers can make world-class wines”.
According to Anne Caine, owner (with her husband Jim Lumbers) of Lerida Estate and current President of the Canberra District Wine Industry Association, “While the Canberra District is already known for Shiraz made from grapes grown in Murrumbateman, it is now clear that fruit grown on the slopes of the Cullerin Range overlooking Lake George can also make outstanding wines.”
Lerida Estate’s 2008 ‘Josephine’ Pinot Noir also received a Commendation at the 2012 International Wine Challenge. In addition to making some of the best Shiraz Viognier and Pinot Noir wines in Australia, Lerida Estate is also gaining increasing recognition for its superb Botrytis Pinot Gris dessert wine. Lerida Estate won a total of 49 medals (or medal equivalents) across the range of wines it entered into wine shows last year.
Lerida Estate wines are available at the Lerida Estate Cellar Door or via the online store at www.leridaestate.com.au. They are also stocked in ACT, Qld, NSW and Vic at Vintage Cellars and good independent liquor stores and restaurants. Distributed by Vino Bambino (VIC), Macro Vintner Partners (NSW and QLD) and Lerida Estate (ACT).
