2009 "Cullerin" Pinot Noir

This wine was selected for a more fruit driven style of Pinot Noir with 20% new wood giving a softer finish.  The aromas are of red cherry, mulberry, gamey and savory with a slight overtone of vanilla.  The palate is soft and rich backed by silky, textured tannins on a long finish.  Drink now but will benefit from 2-3 years cellaring.

This wine is made from fruit (95% Shiraz 5% Viognier) grown on our vineyard at Lake George. It is cold soaked for 5 days before fermentation (up to 35º) with hand plunging 3 times a day. It is left on skins for a further 10 days then pressed off to French oak barriques to mature for 15 months.

The wine has an intense nose of freshly stewed plums, cinnamon, pepper, apricot and vanilla aromas with a rich and savoury palate backed by a long fine grain tannin finish.

2010 Shiraz

A classic cool climate Shiraz from the hills surrounding Canberra, which offers cool brambleberry and spice aromas with a surprisingly generous palate. The flavours are complex and refined, berries and a little pepper, with a long, fine tannin finish. With age, the wine will become progressively richer, revealing warmer, more complex flavours, riper berries and a little liquorice. Drink now, but definitely worth cellaring 4-6 years.

2008 Josephine Pinot Noir

The Canberra District is not well known for Pinot Noir, as only a relatively small number  of the wineries (compared to Shiraz)   produce pinot  noirs .  Generally the best Pinot Noir producers come from the Lake George/ Bungendore/Wamboin sub-region which is higher and cooler than the rest of the wine region  - about 3 degrees cooler than Murrumbateman.

Wine experts who have tastied this wine make comments like ‘ This is the best Pinot Noir to come from the Canberra District for a number of years’.

This wine is our top Pinot Noir from the 2008 Vintage. It contains all the top barrels from 2008.

LGB - Lake George Blend

The Lake George Blend is a bit naughty, but also very nice. It is crafted to an ancient French recipe used in cooler years when the classic Bordeaux varieties, Merlot and Cabernet Franc, failed to ripen fully. In a practice banned under the French Appellation Controllée rules, winemakers would source warm southern Shiraz and even a little white Viognier to flesh out their tight tannic wine. Because 2010 was a cool year in the Canberra District, we made this wine (perfectly legally!) using our 2010 Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Shiraz, and little Viognier to lift the fruit.

The wine is very light in style, but with a luscious, almost cheeky fruitiness with red berries, plums and the elegant long Merlot tannin.

Enjoy it now and for the next 3-5 years.

2010 Lerida Chardonnay

The fruit for the 2010 Chardonnay came from our Lake George vineyard and was picked early to maintain its distinctive freshness and elegance.

Pale green-gold in colour, it has a vibrant aroma of quince, nectarine and orange zest with a hint of cashew. The palate demonstrates tangy white stone fruit and grapefruit characters with a subtle mineral undertone that adds complexity. The wine was 100% barrel fermented and matured for 11 months with regular lees stirring in French oak (12.5% new); the barrel influence provides structural depth as well as balanced integration between fruit and oak. This wine will continue to improve for 3 – 5 years.

2011 Lerida Estate Pinot Rosé

The colour is crystalline pink like a pale Argyle diamond. A cool summers in 2011 produced wines with lovely red fruit aromas, with an intriguing floral overlay. Imagine red cherries and wild raspberries in a basket of roses and violets. The wine has pronounced mineral notes, unusual for a Rosé. With tight natural acids, the effect is remarkably refreshing and crisp. Low alcohol, 11.7%, helps set a new benchmark for the style.
