2008 Brut RoséAn intriguingly complex sparkling wine made from 75% Pinot Noir and 25% Chardonnay grown at our vineyard at Lake George. It shows an attractive orange pink colour with a fine persistent bead. The bouquet is complex from the mix of primary fruit characters (peaches, pears & cherries), plus biscuity, bready characters. The palate is rich and flavoursome balanced by crisp acidity. |

2009 ChardonnayA note from Jim Lumbers on this wine: "We have always been proud of our oak-fermented Chardonnay, and its popularity is such that the last two releases have sold out in just 3 months. But I have always thought that we could do a little bit better. I wanted to get a bit more lift to the fruit and at the same time achieve the elusive “struck flint” character found in great Burgundy. This year, with the 2009, I think that we have done it. On the advice of Australia’s top wine scientists, we changed our bottling line to blanket the wine in carbon dioxide and completely exclude oxygen. It worked. Already, this very young wine is showing brilliantly. Buy a dozen while it lasts, try one bottle and then put the rest away for at least 18 months. It should be still improving in 4 years." This wine is made with fruit grown at our vineyard at Lake George. It is 100% barrel fermented in French oak barriques (15% new), and 20% with wild yeast. During 11 months maturation, the barrels were lees stirred every 2 weeks. It is a light straw colour with aromas of mango, citrus, passionfruit, white peach, nectarine and vanilla with nutty/toasty overtones. A smooth, rich palate with a long crisp acid but soft oak finish. Serve lightly chilled. |

2008 Josephine Pinot NoirThe Canberra District is not well known for Pinot Noir, as only a relatively small number of the wineries (compared to Shiraz) produce pinot noirs . Generally the best Pinot Noir producers come from the Lake George/ Bungendore/Wamboin sub-region which is higher and cooler than the rest of the wine region - about 3 degrees cooler than Murrumbateman. This wine is our top Pinot Noir from the 2008 Vintage. It contains all the top barrels from 2008. ReviewsJames Halliday: Some first stage colour development; an aromatic and spicy bouquet, then a palate with excellent drive and length, offering spicy/savoury nuances woven through black cherry and plum fruit. Screwcap. Rating 94 Drink 2014 Date Tasted December 2009 It was also recently reviewed by Huon Hooke, Peter Forrestal and Debbie Pearce for Gourmet Traveller Wine and was rated 90/100. 2008 Shiraz ViognierThis wine follows on from our Champion 2006 Shiraz Viognier, and the very successful 2007 Shiraz Viognier (one of Halliday’s top 6 red wines from NSW). ReviewsJames Halliday: Bright hue; the Viognier component works its magic on the colour, bouquet and palate, lifting the aromas and investing the plum and black cherry fruit with a juicy character offset by superfine tannins.
