LIMITED STOCK - First in, best dressed!

2023 was a strange vintage with fruit ripening in the vineyard (and coming into the winery) later than we ever seen before… a stark contrast to what we’ve seen for 2024. With harvest wrapping up this week we’ve turned our minds to an­other unusual situation we have with our 2023 Lerida Estate Rose.

Our first bottling run of Rose has presented us with a small surprise by way of tartrate crystals, or wine diamonds, as they are often known in the industry. It is a normal part of the winemaking process for a harmless potassium tartrate deposit to form in a wine. These tiny crystals are filtered out prior to bottling to ensure we present our drinkers with a clear and polished wine. In 2023 however, we discovered calcium tartrates forming in some bottles. Calcium tartrates form more slowly than those that we normally see, and whilst equally harmless, have left some of our stock with a somewhat unsightly deposit, that we are not super fond of.
